Back in the 1930s, two media titans started a brawl over a replacement for the 78rpm record. In Episode 48, Out Of My Mind podcast host Jay Douglas tells the hole story of that battle (and that’s not a typo).

Okay, you got me. Before this I would only read your blog stories. Today I decided to listen to your Podcast and I think I’ll continue listening instead of reading.
Having worked in record stores in my younger daze I never really gave any thought as to why the holes in 45s were so big. Now I know! Thanks Jay.
Also another subject you might look into is the crazy amount of drug adds on the tv during the 6:30 national news. [Truthfully, Jacki and I usually eat dinner watching the national news on ABC followed by Jeopardy which has just as many drug ads] Sometimes I think they make up diseases just to sell it’s cure. And actually it’s not a cure it’s just to keep it in check – until you die I guess.
Hi Robbie..
You can do both you know. Listen and read. 🙂 But I’m glad you liked the podcast. Do me a favor and post about them on Facebook. The audience is, for the first time in a long time, starting to grow. Slowly. Help me keep the momentum going.
As for the drug spots, well, I looked at the demographics of the evening news. Lots of sick…uh…older people watching. So I’m not surprised that’s where the drug commercials will wind up. The last time I watched 60 Minutes I think there were more than a few drug commercials there, too.
As for making up diseases, I don’t know if you heard the podcast “Taking Your Breath Away” (episode 032). You might find it interesting.
Thanks for the comments…
